Lalbaug Raja is one of the most iconic Ganesh Mandals in the city of Mumbai. During the Ganesh festival it is anticipated that more than 1 million pilgrims visit the Mandal.

For the first time the Lalbaug Raja Ganesh Mandal is collaborating with Eyebetes Foundation and Dr Nishant Kumar to offer free screening for diabetes related changes in the eyes in the Mandal during the Ganesh festival.

Our team was set up in the Mannat line, which is the line that devotees have to take to get close-up darshan of the idol. Average waiting times in this line is 12 to 24 hours.

Our team comprising of opticians, optician students, nurses, nursing students, event management personnel and Doctors were present 24 x 7 during the 10 days of the Ganesh festival.

Working in two shifts we ensured that pilgrims visiting Lalbaug Raja at any time would have access to the free services provided by us.

Lalbaug Raja Mandal only provided us with the space and all other logistic, technological and medical facilities were provided by Eyebetes Foundation and Dr Nishant Kumar.

During the 10 days we screened more than 15,000 pilgrims.

More than 500,000 leaflets were distributed amongst pilgrims regarding diabetes and blindness.

All pilgrims received the results of their tests by text message one week following completion of the Ganesh festival.

They can also access the results of their tests on this website by inserting their Mobile No. in the REPORTS section of this website.
