Thane Town Hall Event 2016

Eyebetes Foundation and Dr. Nishant Kumar collaborated with the Thane Collector, Dr Mahendra Kalyankar to organize a free diabetic eye screening event at Thane Town Hall on 13.11.2016.

Thane has a large rural and tribal population where health care services are scarce and access to eye care is limited.

The Thane Collectorate and Eyebetes Foundation worked together to try and help this group of diabetics who have probably never had their eyes examined for diabetes in the past.

The Thane Collectorate along with his staff and the District Health Officer helped identify diabetics in the rural and tribal areas of Thane.

Eyebetes Foundation and Dr. Nishant Kumar arranged transport for these diabetics from these remote areas so that they can be brought to the Town Hall for their diabetic eye screening.

On 13th November 16 we had more than 40 buses bringing diabetics from pre-determined pickup points throughout Thane to the Town Hall.

1,042 diabetics screened

The scale of this initiative makes it potentially a world record for the largest number of diabetics undergoing eye screening on a single day.

Guinness World Record is looking at the details of the event to verify the details of the event and we are hopeful that this will be a new Guinness World Record.
