Doctor Nishant is detecting vision problems with the help of Naga Sadhus in Maha Kumbh

NDTV reports Dr. Nishant Kumar’s initiative at Mahakumbh 2025 where Naga Sadhus helped examine 18,000 eyes and distribute 15,000 free spectacles.

Eyes are an integral part of our body. If our eyes are healthy, we can see all the good and bad things of this world. To detect and remove the vision problems of the devotees in the Maha Kumbh Mela, Mumbai’s ophthalmologist Dr. Nishant Kumar has adopted a unique method. Seeing the immense faith of people towards Naga Sadhus, he is taking their help to know the vision problems. Dr. Nishant Kumar, founder of IBTiz Foundation, said, “In our camp at Arail Ghat, big and small letters of Hindi are written among the ash on the back of the Naga Sadhu and people are asked to identify those letters so that their vision problems can be detected.”

He said that this camp, which started on 10th February, will continue till 25th February and so far 18,000 patients’ eyes have been examined and 15,000 spectacles have been distributed free of cost. On the other hand, those who have complained of cataract in their eyes are being given a complete report so that they can get the operation done in their city.

Dr Nishant said, “Every year in Mumbai, during the 10-day Ganesh festival, we examine the eyes of 30-40,000 people. This time, we felt like serving the millions of devotees in the Maha Kumbh, so we have come here.”

Naga Sadhu Siddheshwar Maharaj, associated with Juna Akhara, said that the body is a means for sadhana and it is necessary for it to remain healthy. “It was God’s wish that we could be of help in curing people’s vision problems and we are happy about this.” Dr. Nishant said that so far 50 Naga Sadhus have cooperated in this initiative and the Foundation’s team meets new Sadhus every day and persuades them for this noble work. The Foundation’s team of 100 people is engaged in serving the people.
